Some New Statistical Applications and Their Role in the Curriculum

The growth of technology has made applications of statistical theories once thought impractical a current reality. Many of these new applications are important to the applied mathematician but ranking them by order of importance is frequently a difficult if not impossible task. Nonetheless, it is a task that teachers of prospective applied mathematicians must address when preparing a course syllabus. It is also a task practitioners must address when budgeting their research and reading time. The speakers will address some of the newer applications currently gaining acceptance as well as the appropriate role of these applications in the training of applied mathematicians.
