The speaker will present a mathematician's perspective on some games and sports, and answer questions like these:

How many shuffles to mix a deck? When is a team eliminated? What is the probability of heads? How should teams be ranked? What is the probability of a shutout? How do world records vary with time? How should a runner vary his speed in a race? Does it pay to exercise?
