The 1997 Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM)

Each year SIAM designates two teams from among the Outstanding teams of the Mathematical Contest in Modeling. Each team is chosen by a pair of SIAM judges. Mario Juncosa and Mark Levinson will choose a SIAM winner from among the Outstanding MCM97 teams that did the Continuous problem; Jerry Griggs and Cathy Roberts will choose a SIAM winner from among the Outstanding MCM97 teams that did the Discrete problem.

SIAM subsidizes the travel of these teams to the Annual Meeting and awards them certificates and cash prizes. Each team is expected to make a presentation at the meeting.

The vehicle for SIAM's recognition of these talented, energetic, and knowledgeable undergraduates has been the minisymposium.
