How to Participate

SIAM requests that individuals limit themselves to giving one talk. (This does not apply to invited plenary speakers). A poster may be presented in addition to a talk, provided the talk and the poster are on different results. All submissions are subject to review and final approval by the co-chairs. The co-chairs of the organizing committee may make exceptions to the one talk limit if sufficient justification is provided. Those wishing to deliver more than one talk, please contact the co-chairs ([email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]) to request an exception.

You are invited to contribute a presentation for this conference in one of the following formats.

Minisymposia

A minisymposium generally consists of four 20-minute presentations, with an additional five minutes for discussion after each presentation. Prospective minisymposium organizers are asked to submit a proposal consisting of a title, a description (not to exceed 1,500 characters), and a list of speakers and titles of their presentations using the Conference Management System available at: http://meetings.siam.org/start.cfm?CONFCODE=cs17.

It is recommended that a minisymposium organizer make the first presentation. Each minisymposium speaker should submit an abstract no longer than 1500 characters, including spaces. The organizing committee will referee minisymposium proposals. The number of minisymposia may be limited to retain an acceptable level of parallelism in the conference sessions.

To ensure balance, SIAM requests that a single individual not be the organizer or co-organizer of more than one minisymposium (and not give more than one talk as noted above). In addition, SIAM requests that minisymposia be comprised of at most two parts. The co-chairs of the organizing committee may make exceptions if sufficient justification is provided. To request an exception please contact the co-chairs ([email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]). SIAM strongly discourages minisymposia in which most of the speakers (or co-authors) come from the same organization.

Be certain to visit http://www.siam.org/meetings/guidelines/mini_guide.php to review Guidelines for Preparing a Minisymposium Proposal.

Prospective minisymposium organizers must submit a proposal consisting of a title, a description (not to exceed 1,500 characters, including spaces), a list of speakers and presentation titles using the Conference Management System available at: http://meetings.siam.org/start.cfm?CONFCODE=cs17.

Deadline for submission of minisymposium proposals: August 15, 2016
Deadline for submission of minisymposium speaker abstracts: September 12, 2016

Contributed Presentations in Poster Format

Contributed presentations in poster format are invited in all areas consistent with the conference themes. A poster format involves the use of visual aids for mounting on a 4’ x 6’ or 4’ x 8’ poster board. The posters will be displayed in a two-hour poster session during the day. To participate, each contributor must submit a title and a brief abstract not to exceed 1,500 characters, including spaces.  http://meetings.siam.org/start.cfm?CONFCODE=cs17.

Deadline for submission of contributed abstracts: September 12, 2016

The poster session will be preceded by a poster blitz highlighting the posters on display.  In addition, prizes will be awarded --- e.g. “best overall poster” and “best student poster.”

New at CSE17: E-Posters

An e-poster is a large electronic display that you can plug your laptop into to show rich, interactive material at the poster session. CSE17 will have up to 25 e-poster displays that we will make available to presenters who wish to use them. In order to select the poster presenters, we request a description of between 100-500 words explaining why we should select you to use an e-poster. Important information to include would be a description of how you will take advantage of the e-poster format to go beyond what is possible in a regular poster and also how you will distinguish what you'll do with an e-poster from a standard projector presentation. Please fill out the Google form we are using to collect the information about e-poster explanations. In addition to the Google form, be sure to submit a standard poster using the online system here.

Deadline for submission of e-poster abstracts and e-poster utilization explanations:  September 12, 2016

E-poster decisions will be emailed by late October 2016.

Poster Minisymposia

A minisymposium of posters (that is, a minisymposterium) consists of a collection of three or more posters by different presenters grouped around a central theme. The posters will be co-located in the poster viewing area.

To submit a Minisymposterium, organizers and poster participants must coordinate and do the following:

  1. Participants must submit their posters by September 12 using the Conference Management System (CMS): http://meetings.siam.org/start.cfm?CONFCODE=cs17. The poster title should be submitted as “Minisymposterium: [insert poster title]”.

  2. After the posters are submitted to the CMS, Organizers must send an email to [email protected] the subject line "CSE17 Minisymposterium – [insert minisymposterium title]." The email must include:
    1. Organizer name, affiliation, email address
    2. A short title for the minisymposterium
    3. A short description of the minisymposterium (less than 100 words)
    4. Poster titles and presenters first name, last name, and affiliation for each poster scheduled within the minisymposterium

Contributed Presentations in Lecture Format

Contributed presentations in lecture format are also invited as an alternative to poster presentations. However, since conference attendees have preferred poster presentations in the past, poster presentations are encouraged over contributed lectures. A lecture format involves a 10-minute oral presentation with an additional 5 minutes for discussion. Each contributor must submit a title and a brief abstract not to exceed 1,500 characters, included blank spaces. Acceptance of abstracts for contributed presentations will be based on compatibility with the conference themes and space in the parallel sessions (with priority given to minisymposia and posters). Please submit contributed presentations in lecture format using the Conference Management System available at: http://meetings.siam.org/start.cfm?CONFCODE=cs17.

Deadline for submission of contributed abstracts in lecture format: September 12, 2016

Acceptance Notification

Acceptance notification was sent by email on Tuesday, October 25, 2016. If you did not receive notification and believe this is an error, please contact [email protected].

Speaker Cancellation

The Conference Organizing Committee expects every speaker in a scheduled presentation to register and attend the conference.

If it becomes necessary for a speaker to cancel a presentation, he or she should try to find an alternate presenter immediately, preferably a co-author. Contact SIAM at [email protected] immediately with any change to a scheduled presentation.

A “no-show” or cancelled presentation can cause serious inconvenience to the attendees and conference organizers. The committee thanks all speakers in advance for their compliance to this request.
