Fourth SIAM Conference on Control and Its Applications

Sponsored by SIAM Activity Group on Control and Systems Theory

archive.siam.org/meetings/ct98/ct98home.htm

The deadline for submission of minisymposium proposals has been extended to October 8, 1997.

In today's technological world, the field of control theory is at the center of the interplay between mathematics, engineering and computer science. Contemporary manufacturing, transportation, and medical advances depend on accurate process and machine control. This conference will showcase a wide range of new results in control and systems theory and novel applications. The challenges of control and computation in different types of systems will be highlighted. Newer areas of control like neural networks and learning in control will be represented. Extensions of the classical Pontryagin Maximum Principle involving non-smooth analysis will be included.

Who Should Attend?

This conference will bring together scientists, engineers, and mathematicians with interdisciplinary interests and with control theory as a common tool. The conference will provide a forum for the dissemination of the latest research findings in the broad field of control.

Conference Themes

The themes of the 1998 conference will include, but are not limited to

Control and computation

How to Contribute

Minisymposia

A minisymposium is a two-hour session consisting of four presentations on a well-focused topic. A number of minisymposia will be invited by the conference Organizing Committee to supplement the conference themes. The Organizing Committee also encourages proposals for minisymposia in areas related to the conference themes. Prospective minisymposium organizers are asked to submit a proposal consisting of a title, a description (not to exceed 100 words), and a list of speakers and titles of their presentations. Each minisymposium speaker must submit a 75-word abstract in LaTeX format to [email protected]. A minisymposium proposal fill-in form is available through the World Wide Web at archive.siam.org/conf.htm. Complete the form and submit it to SIAM.

Contributed minisymposia will be refereed by the Organizing Committee. The number of minisymposia may need to be limited to retain an acceptable level of parallelism in the conference sessions.

Deadline for submission of minisymposium proposals and minisymposium speakers' abstracts has been extended to October 8, 1997.

Contributed Presentations in Lecture or Poster Format

The Organizing Committee invites you to submit abstracts of papers to be considered for presentation at the conference in either of the following formats:

A lecture consists of a 15-minute oral presentation with an additional five minutes for discussion. A poster presentation consists of the use of visual aids, such as 8-1/2" x 11" sheets, mounted on a 4' x 6' poster board. A poster session is two hours long. Each contributor must submit a title and a brief abstract not to exceed 75 words. Submissions must be transmitted electronically in LaTeX format to [email protected]. LaTeX macros can be accessed through the World Wide Web at archive.siam.org/conf.htm. If you do not have access to the Web, contact [email protected] and the macro will be sent to you via e-mail.

The Organizing Committee reserves the right to limit the number of contributed presentations a single speaker may present.

Deadline for submission of contributed abstracts for a lecture or poster: October 15, 1997.

About the Conference Headquarters

The Omni Jacksonville Hotel is conveniently located at the Riverfront, downtown Jacksonville. It is immediately across from the Jacksonville Landing Festival Marketplace and the Civic Auditorium. At the Landing, you will find dining, entertainment, shopping, a fabulous river view -- all in the heart of downtown Jacksonville. The hotel is only 25 minutes from the Jacksonville International Airport.

Exhibits

Publishers, software and hardware suppliers, service organizations, and others having products to offer are invited to participate in the exhibition. For further information and fees, please complete and return the attached postage-paid reply card, or contact the SIAM Marketing Representative ([email protected]). Information on how to exhibit at SIAM conferences can also be found at archive.siam.org/conf.htm.

Registration

The conference program and registration information will be produced electronically and will be available on the World Wide Web at archive.siam.org/meetings/ct98/ct98home.htm in mid-January, 1998. A 4-page announcement which contains the highlights of and critical information about the conference will appear in the January 1998 issue of SIAM News and will be mailed to participants and attendees. To ensure receiving your copy, please complete and submit the fill-in reply form.
