Symmetry has long been a source of potent methods for analyzing physical systems; but only recently have
researchers started to use symmetry techniques to analyze biological systems. The speakers in this minisymposium will focus on the uses of symmetry in studying coupled cell systems (central pattern generators for animal gaits and the structure of the visual cortex) and PDEs (the existence of pattern in animal shapes and coloration).
