Manufacturing Geometry

10:30 AM-12:30 PM
Room: Rio Grande Ballroom

This minisymposium deals with some of the geometric problems arising in manufacturing. The speakers show how geometry can provide a theoretical basis for rigorous treatment of some of the problems in Numerical Control (NC) Machining. They also discuss the application of geometry in design modeling and fabrication of discrete mechanical products. They will emphasize applications of new geometric tools such computational line geometry and kinematic geometry to address problems of modeling and machining of surfaces as well as problems associated with appropriate or optimal cuter selection. In addition to covering conventional areas of NC machining such as milling, other less studied areas such as rough cutting operations or use of non-conventional maching processes are also covered.
