Call for Minisymposia

IMPORTANT DEADLINES:

  • The deadline for minisymposium proposal submissions is November 15, 2011
  • Acceptance/rejection date: December 15, 2011
Each minisymposium will typically consist of one session of four presentations on a single topic of interest. Each speaker will have 20 minutes for the presentation, with an additional 5 minutes for discussion. In some cases a minisymposium may consist of two sessions, with 8 speakers in total.
The minisymposium organizer(s) will chair the session and may also be one of the speakers. Please note that each speaker may present only one talk at the conference.
We encourage diversity in the speakers, i.e., including both junior and senior researchers; considering industry and government lab representatives as well as academics; and being inclusive of underrepresented minorities and women when appropriate. Further, SIAM discourages minisymposia in which most of the speakers come from the same organization or where all co-authors on the papers being presented in a minisymposium are from the same institution.
The conference organizing committee will not be able to waive the registration fee for minisymposium organizers and speakers, or reimburse their expenses. Therefore, organizers should make no financial commitments on behalf of SIAM to speakers when organizing their minisymposium.

Organizing a Minisymposium

Those interested in organizing a minisymposium are invited to submit a proposal to the conference program committee by sending an e-mail to
[email protected] or [email protected]
by no later than November 15, indicating in the subject: SIAM/LA minisymposium proposal.
In the body of the e-mail please include:
  • TITLE: (Describe the subject as accurately and specifically as possible in no more than ten words)
  • ORGANIZER(S): (Full name, electronic address, title, affiliation, address)
  • SUMMARY: (Describe your minisymposium in no more than 100 words, explaining the problem area to be addressed and its applications; identifying current directions of research; including their advantages and shortcomings; and describing the scope of your minisymposium)
  • SPEAKERS: (Provide the full name, affiliation, and address of each speaker and the title of his/her presentation)
The scientific committee of the conference will communicate a decision on the proposed minisymposia by December 15, after which the speakers should send their abstracts and other information following the instructions that will appear on the web page.
We encourage minisymposium organizers to follow the SIAM guidelines for minisymposium proposal at the web page http://www.siam.org/meetings/guidelines/mini_guide.php
