Make the Most of Your Membership
Whether you’ve been a member for two days or twenty years, you can always make your membership with SIAM go farther. Read about 8 ways to get more involved with SIAM, and watch video testimonials from some of your colleagues explaining the role that SIAM has played in their professional lives!
Eight ways to get more involved:
- Join a SIAM Activity Group
Explore common interests and exchange ideas with your peers. Already belong? Contact your SIAG’s officers to get more involved.
- Organize or participate in a SIAM conference or workshop
SIAM conferences keep you up to date on topics in applied mathematics and computational science and facilitate sharing your latest research with your peers. Submit suggestions for topics or activities to [email protected].
- Connect with your colleagues and with SIAM online
SIAM Connect provides news and information including research and policy updates, announcements about scholarships and prizes, and trends and milestones in the community. It also features SIAM Nuggets (articles aimed at the general public about research published in SIAM journals), SIAM Presents (audio, slide, and video archives from SIAM conferences), and SIAM Unwrapped (SIAM’s monthly member e-newsletter).
- Join a Student Chapter (or start one at your school)
Learn about careers in applied mathematics and computational science, and build networks with other students and faculty at your school. Check out the student blog, where students can share their views and perspectives on applied mathematics and computational science research and education, and SIAM Student Chapter representatives post updates on their events and activities in addition to sharing and seeking ideas on fundraising and public outreach.
- Participate in a SIAM Section
Network with colleagues in your geographical area at regional conferences and activities.
- Share interesting work, programs, or stories with your peers
There are lots of ways to do it: SIAM News, Unwrapped, Nuggets, SIAM Undergraduate Research Online, and SIAM journals.
- Take advantage of resources that will help develop your career
Student Travel Awards, Student Chapters, Careers in the Math Sciences columns, Careers in Math brochure, Student Blog, Job Board, SIURO, and more…
- Get news on funding opportunities and science policy issues
