The University of California is creating a dynamic new campus and community in Merced, California. UC's tenth campus opened in September 2005, and is the first American research university built in the 21st century. From UC Merced, it is about a 2 hour drive to Yosemite National Park and to the San Francisco Bay Area.

UC Merced offers interdisciplinary research and training for MS and PhD students. Graduate studies in Applied Mathematics offers opportunities for students interested in multidisciplinary mathematics projects at the interface between life sciences, physical sciences, engineering and social sciences. Training emphasizes modeling, analysis, scientific computing, and the solution of real-world problems. All students admitted will be offered financial support including tuition waivers through a teaching or research assistantship. Applications received by December 15 will be considered for early admission and application fee waivers. All highly qualified applicants will be considered for the Chancellor's Fellowship.
