ICIAM Public Lecture
October 21, 2007
Ivar Ekeland, a professor of mathematics and economics at the University of British Columbia, gave a public lecture at ICIAM 07, "The Best of All Possible Worlds: The Idea of Optimization." Tracing the path from Fermat to modern economic theory, from optimization to game theory, Ekeland drew a large, appreciative audience. "Ekeland is a great storyteller," Philip Davis wrote in a review of the general-audience book from which the Zurich lecture was largely drawn. Readers can find the review, "From Fermat to Lenny Bernstein and Beyond," in the June issue of SIAM News: http://www.siam.org/news/news.php?id=1138.
