A SIAM Annual Meeting Program Takes Shape
June 22, 2010
Outside the purview of Kolata and Thiel are the many special sessions on the program. In addition to such obvious highlights as the von Neumann lecture ("From Linear to Nonlinear," by Bernd Sturmfels), the Reid Prize lecture (by John Burns), and presentations by the SIAM MCM winners are what promises to be an outstanding I.E. Block Community Lecture ("The Geometry of Music," by Dmitri Tymoczko) and, for something completely different, a panel discussion, Ethics and Integrity in SIAM Publishing (with panelists Doug Arnold, Susanne Brenner, chair Tim Kelley, and David Marshall).
Students will find a wealth of activities---probably more than one during many time slots!---but are encouraged to find time to meet Sue Minkoff (see Life After Graduate School: What's Next?). Photo by Lois Sellers.
