This minisymposium is sponsored by the recently formed SIAM Activity Group on Imaging Science. The presentations in this session will include a variety of mathematical and statistical methods for reconstructing images in nuclear medicine. These include iterative statistical techniques, non-iterative wavelet methods, methods for incorporating a- priori information, and new mathematical models for the physical process. Nuclear medicine is playing an increasingly important role in diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The speakers will present work on improving the resolution of the images formed. The minisymposium will be of interest to researchers in wavelets, tomography, inverse problems, statistics, approximation theory, medical physics, radiology, and image formation.
