TIMSS and Other K-12 Math Achievement Indicators: A Wake-Up Call?

The United States participated along with 40 other nations in the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), a comparative achievement test of mathematics and science at the fourth, eighth, and twelfth grade levels. The U.S. results fell somewhere between disappointing and bleak for the U.S. students beyond the fourth grade. Other indicators -- SAT, Advanced Placement, and NAEP, seem to be mixed in what they reveal about mathematics achievement. Debates rage across the country about where problems and solutions in K-12 mathematics education lie. A diverse group of experienced national leaders will address current, relevant issues.
