The John von Neumann Lecture Polynomial Interpolation
Splines were invented to make up for deficiencies in polynomial interpolation, but even spline theory has polynomial interpolation as one of its basic ingredients, as does much of approximation theory and numerical analysis. At least, this is so in the univariate situation, which will be reviewed at the outset.
The lecture focuses on recent advances toward a correspondingly useful theory of multivariate polynomial interpolation.
