Optimal Control

Optimal Control is one of the major areas of Control and System Theory. Much research has been devoted to it in the last forty years. The theory is well developed in several directions for example in linear and nonlinear optimal control, stochastic control and control of distributed systems to applications such as aerospace, aeronautics, chemical plants, mechanical systems and economics. Optimal control has made substantial contributions.

The speakers in this minisymposium will present some recent advances in the theory and applications of optimal control, including the application of the methods of nonsmooth analysis to a new approach to study singular stochastic control problems, on optimal control problems appearing in mechanics and combustion, and the application of various control techniques to combustion systems to attain objectives such as increasing energy release, suppressing combustion instabilities, extending flammability limits and reducing pollutant emissions.
