1995 SIAM Annual Meeting
Message from the Meeting Chair ...

Computational and applied mathematics is playing an increasing role in research and development in science and engineering, both in academia and industry. Recognition of this has lead to new innovative academic programs in this area. The 1995 SIAM annual meeting is focused on computational science and engineering(CSE) - its applications, and the interdisciplinary interactions that yield new perspectives on research, on education, and on the contribution of mathematics to science and industry.

An outstanding collection of invited speakers have been selected to highlight the role of mathematics and computation in science and engineering. They will speak about exciting new work in the areas of Control of Large Systems, Environmental Modeling, Multidisciplinary Design Optimization, Biology and Chemistry. To underscore the role of education in this area, an entire day has been devoted to educational themes.

I wish to thank the members of the organizing committee for their efforts in assembling this fine program. I also wish to acknowledge the enthusiastic efforts of our president, Margaret Wright, as well as the SIAM staff to help make this a successful meeting.

I and the organizing committee hope that the meeting and your visit to Charlotte are stimulating, exciting and enjoyable. We look forward to seeing you there.
