A 3-day Workshop on
Mathematical Issues in Bioremediation
and Flow through Porous and Fractured Media

June 11-13, 1997
Los Alamos National Laboratory
J. R. Oppenheimer Study Center
Los Alamos, New Mexico

Sponsored by the Center for Nonlinear Studies, Los Alamos National Laboratory
and Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM)

Tourist Information on Los Alamos County can be found at http://www.losalamos.com.

About the Workshop...

A variety of industries are engaged in research on environmental problems, including oil and gas, mining, chemicals, agriculture, and semiconductors. Many of the kinds of problems and issues faced by industry are common to those in the government complex, and to DOE in particular.

Our goal is to look for the commonalities underlying these environmental problems and to engage the applied mathematics community in their formulation, modeling and analysis. We are focusing on bioremediation because it is one of the most promising in situ methods for clean-up, but involves complex interactions that are not well-understood.
