Eighth SIAM Conference on Discrete Mathematics

Message from the Conference Organizer

Dear Colleagues:

Welcome to Baltimore, Charm City! And welcome to Johns Hopkins University!

Mathematics has enjoyed a rich history here at Hopkins. The first mathematics professor at Hopkins was J.J. Sylvester (famous for neologisms, he is often credited with being the first to use the word "graph" in print). We are home to the American Journal of Mathematics (founded by Sylvester) as well as the Journal of Graph Theory.

My heartfelt thanks to the members of the organizing committee, the principal speakers, the minisymposium organizers and presenters, and those presenting contributed lectures. Thanks to the folks at SIAM for all their help in running the meeting. And most of all, many thanks to you, the participants in this conference (there wouldn't be much of a conference without you).

I hope you enjoy the talks and your stay in Baltimore!

With best wishes,

Ed Scheinerman
Conference Chair
