Location

With its casually elegant mountain lodge atmosphere, the Regal Harvest House Hotel in Boulder, Colorado is just 100 yards from the University of Colorado. Situated on 16 beautifully landscaped acres, the hotel has exceptional ambiance and provides guests with a sense of comfort and tranquility. The hotel overlooks the unique beauty of the Rocky Mountains, just minutes from the Pearl Street Mall, a vibrant pedestrian shopping plaza with lots of stores and restaurants.

Reservations

SIAM is holding a block of rooms at the Regal Harvest House Hotel. These rooms are being held on a first-come, first-served basis at $125.00 single, $135.00 double. Rates are subject to prevailing state and local taxes, currently at 9.7%. These rooms will be held for SIAM's use until Monday, May 21, 2001.

Please be aware that SIAM's room block fills quickly, so we suggest that you make your hotel and travel plans early. After SIAM's room block fills, reservations at the SIAM price will depend upon availability. Fax or mail the Hotel Reservation Form directly to the Regal Harvest House Hotel. You may also make your reservation by phone 1-800-545-6285. Remember to get your confirmation number! Please be certain to mention that you are an attendee of the SIAM Geosciences Conference being held at the hotel during the week of June 11-14, 2001. When making your reservation, remember that the Welcome Reception is scheduled for Sunday, June 10 at 6:00 PM.

Deposit

The Regal Harvest House Hotel requires a deposit equivalent to one night's room rate plus tax to guarantee your reservation. The hotel accepts American Express, MasterCard, Visa, money orders, or personal checks as forms of payment.

Cancellations

If you need to change or cancel your reservation, you must contact the hotel by 3:00 P.M. Mountain Time, 48 hours prior to your scheduled arrival to receive a refund of one night's deposit. Remember to get a cancellation number from the reservations department.

Arrivals and Departures

Check-in time is 3:00 PM and checkout time is 12:00 noon

Hotel Facilities

The Regal Harvest House Hotel has a fully equipped fitness center and an outdoor and an indoor swimming pool. There are fifteen (15) tennis courts, two (2) whirlpools, and a basketball court. These facilities are complimentary to all SIAM conference attendees staying at the hotel. Thanks to a sports equipment rental program, guests can explore Boulder on a mountain bike or on in-line skates. Non-smoking rooms are available upon request. E-mail Access

SIAM cannot offer E-Mail access. We suggest that you bring your own laptop computer and use the data port located in your hotel room.

Self-parking is complimentary at the hotel.

Hotel Room-Sharing List

A Hotel Room-Sharing List is available for those who wish to share a room with another attendee at the conference to reduce expenses. Please submit the Hotel Room-Sharing Form directly to SIAM.

Climate

The weather in Boulder during June is beautiful, average June temperature is in the mid 80° range. The evenings can be cool so definitely bring an all-purpose jacket. Also, remember that meeting room temperatures and personal comfort zones vary widely. It is recommended that you bring a sweater or jacket to the sessions.

Denver /Boulder is a mile above sea level and the mountain summits rise almost 3,000 feet higher. You may experience the affects of altitude. For example, you may notice that your breathing is faster or deeper and you may feel short of breath. Your heart may beat faster and you may have trouble sleeping. These symptoms are usually temporary. To help your body acclimate, it is suggested that you drink more water and take it easy for the first day or two. Consult your physician if you have experienced altitude related problems or if symptoms persist.
