Sufficient Conditions, Sensitivity Theory and Optimal Control Computations

4:30 PM-6:30 PM
Tampa 1st Floor

In optimal control theory, sufficient conditions for local optimality are closely related to the convergence properties of standard iterative algorithms, and also to the sensivity of the optimal solution set to cost function and constraint perturbations. Lipschitz sensitivity estimates are in turn important in the analysis of approximation procedures that replace difficult problems by related simpler problems (e.g., continuous-time problems by discrete-time problems). The gap between sufficient and necessary conditions is an essential consideration here, especially for infinite-dimensional ODE and PDE optimal control problems. The speaker in this minisymposium will address these issues.
