Applications of Wavelets in Computer Graphics and Geometric Modeling

Wavelets are powerful new mathematical tools for hierarchically decomposing functions. They are becoming increasingly important in computer graphics and geometric modeling. They have, for instance, recently been applied to image editing and compression, automatic level-of-detail control for editing and rendering curves and surfaces, surface reconstruction from contours, and fast methods for solving simulation problems in global illumination and animation. The speaker will provide a brief introduction to wavelets, and demonstrate how they can be applied to problems in computer graphics and geometric modeling.
