Inclusion of Topological Information in Geometric Modeling
Representations
Most modeling representations include some form of topological
information (such as the list of edges used to trim a surface or
the list of surfaces bounding a solid). A key question when
designing modeling representations is what kinds of topological
information should be included. Usually either a minimal or
maximal approach is taken, with little consideration given for
other options.
The speaker will identify criteria for including topological
information in modeling representations, in particular in solid
and nonmanifold modeling environments, including accuracy,
consistency, and space/time efficiency considerations, as well as
differences in considerations for static and dynamic storage
representations.
