A Review of Some Recent Advances in the Finite Difference Time Domain Technique for Solving Maxwell's Equations in Complex Structures

4:30 PM-5:15 PM
Chair: Anna Lawniczak, University of Guelph, Canada
Room: Convocation Hall

In this presentation, the speaker will review some of the recent advances in the Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) technique for direct solution of Maxwell's equations. While the FDTD technique is very versatile, it has a number of serious limitations in its original form which utilizes a uniform Cartesian grid. The speaker will discuss its some of its generalizations -- including recent extensions to non-uniform as well as non-orthogonal conform grids, and to a class of large-body scattering problems that have partial azimuthal symmetry. He will also discuss the problem of mesh truncation using the newly-developed perfectly matched layer concept.
