Local Area
Paris is the administrative, economic, cultural and scientific capital of France. It is in the center of the Île-de-France region, also known as the "région parisienne", or Paris Region. The City of Paris has an area of 105.4 square kilometers (40.7 square miles) and a population of about 2,250,000 within its city limits. The Paris Region covers 12,012 square kilometers (4,638 square miles), with a population of 12,000,000 which represents around 18 percent of the population of France. The average temperature in Paris in April is 10.2 Celsius degrees (50.4 Fahrenheit degrees). Visit the following websites for more details:

The city of Paris is divided into twenty districts called "arrondissements". The conference will take place in the heart of the Latin Quarter located in the 5th arrondissement. The Latin Quarter is the historical student quarter, and has remained an important student place. It is also a touristic highlight with many attractions to visit including the Pantheon, the Musée National du Moyen-Âge, the Luxembourg gardens and museum and the Arènes de Lutèce.
The conference will more precisely take place in the so-called Cordeliers campus. Located in rue de l'école de médecine, the Cordeliers site has been, for centuries, an important intellectual place. Before being dedicated to research in medicine, it was a religious teaching institution during middle age, and has been the head quarter of one of the most influential political clubs during the French Revolution. The precise address of the conference site is the following:
- Campus des Cordeliers
21 rue de l’Ecole de Médecine
75006 Paris
