SIAM Science Policy Fellowship Program

The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) announces a new Science Policy Fellowship Program to enable post-doctoral fellows and early career researchers to be strong advocates for federal investments in applied mathematics and computational science. Three to five fellowship recipients will be selected each year to serve two-year terms that include in person and remote training; attending biannual SIAM Committee on Science Policy Meetings in Washington, DC; interfacing with federal officials; and participating in an advocacy day on Capitol Hill.

The Science Policy Fellowship Program enables participants to gain in-depth knowledge of the policy processes that determine science funding and policy decisions while still pursuing their research and teaching. Fellowship recipients will receive training and guidance on how to effectively communicate with federal officials and congressional staff. Participants will also learn about important legislative issues as well as the federal budget and appropriations process.  Training will occur both in-person at the SIAM Committee on Science Policy Meetings as well as remotely by tele-com or webinar. Science Policy Fellowships will play an important role representing the industrial and applied math community to policy-makers in Washington, DC.
