2007 Abel Prize to Varadhan

Srinivasa S.R.Varadhan has been selected to receive the 2007 Abel Prize in Mathematics by the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.

Varadhan was chosen for "his fundamental contributions to probability theory and in particular for creating a unified theory of large deviations."

Varadhan is a professor at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University.
