SIAM Considers Fellows

At the summer meetings of SIAM Council and Board of Trustees in Zurich, the issue of fellows was discussed. A committee, commissioned by the Council in 2006 to examine whether SIAM should institute a fellows program, reported back to the Council and Board. The committee, chaired by Marty Golubitsky, recommended that the Council and Board approve taking the issue of fellows to the membership for a vote. The Council and Board voted to approve this recommendation, without expressing their view on a fellows program itself. The predominant sentiment was that this was a major issue requiring the input of the entire membership, and such a program will be voted on by the membership in Fall 2008. The membership will be informed of the details of the proposed fellows program as soon as they become available.
