The NSF issued a new program solicitation for a multidisciplinary Center for Research at the Interface of the Mathematical and Biological Sciences.

Details may be found at:

Deadline for preliminary proposals: December 24, 2007

The Center is intended serve the biological and mathematical communities by providing mechanisms to foster collaborative, cross-disciplinary studies. It will focus on modeling of biological problems that can be gained only by using approaches of mathematical, statistical and computational biology.

The Center will joinlty funded by several agencies including the Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the NSF Directorate for Biological Sciences, and the NSF Directorate for Mathematical and Physical Sciences.

A Dear Colleauge letter from the NSF Division of Mathematical Sciences encourages researchers in the mathematical and statistical communities "to consider this solicitation and to work closely with their colleagues in the biological sciences when writing a proposal." It also states that "Although the report from the workshop that considered scientific and national needs suggests some possible mechanisms for the development of this Center (see www.nsf.gov/pubsys/ods/getpub.cfm?ods_key=biorpt701), other creative, innovative ideas are welcome."
