May 28, 2008
The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) released a major solicitation for institutes in the mathematical sciences. The deadline for full proposals is February 27, 2009.
The solicitation may be found at http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2008/nsf08565/nsf08565.htm?govDel=USNSF_25.
The estimated number of awards is listed as 4 to 6.
The institutes program represents roughly 10% of the investment that the Division of Mathematical Sciences (DMS) makes in the mathematical sciences.
Four of the existing seven institutes are scheduled for recompetition: MSRI, IMA, IPAM, and MBI.
The solicitation states that up to $20 million will be available for this activity in 2010, subject to availability of funds.
