Juan Meza to receive Blackwell-Tapia Prize

The National Blackwell-Tapia Committee has announced that the 2008 Blackwell-Tapia prize will be awarded to Dr. Juan C. Meza, Department Head and Senior Scientist for the High Performance Computing Research Departments at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Dr. Meza, a member of the SIAM Board of Trustees, will be presented the prize at the Blackwell-Tapia Conference at SAMSI in November 2008.

This prize is awarded every second year in honor of the legacy of David H. Blackwell and Richard A. Tapia. It recognizes a mathematical scientist who has contributed and continues to contribute significantly to research in his or her field of expertise, and who has served as a role model for mathematical scientists and students from under-represented minority groups or contributed in other ways to addressing the problem of the under-representation of minorities in mathematics.
