New Center for Math and Biology Created at Tennessee

The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded UT Knoxville $16 million to begin the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis, or NIMBioS. The center will be directed by Louis Gross, a professor of math and ecology and evolutionary biology.

Suzanne Lenhart, a member of SIAM Board of Trustees and professor of mathematics at UT Knoxville, will be directing outreach, diversity and undergraduate education activities.

This new institute is complemented by the existing Mathematical Biosciences Institute, one of six math institutes funded by NSF/DMS.
