Moler Awarded CS&E Prize

The 2009 winner of the SIAM/ACM Prize in Computational Science and Engineering (CS&E) is Cleve Moler. David Keyes, the SIAM Vice President at Large, presented the award to Moler at the SIAM Conference on Computational Science and Engineering in Miami, Florida.
The citation states:
"The CS&E Prize is awarded to Cleve Moler in recognition of his
individual research in numerical analysis and the efficacy of his
invention, Matlab, which has had a transformative impact on the ability of
the applied mathematics, engineering and computer science communities to
prototype rapidly and to execute reliably numerical simulations in ever
expanding domains of science and engineering."
The SIAM/ACM Prize in Computational Science and Engineering
was established in 2002, and is awarded jointly by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) in the area of computational science in recognition of outstanding contributions to the development and use of mathematical and computational tools and methods for the solution of science and engineering problems. This prize is awarded at the biennial SIAM Conference on Computational Science and Engineering.
