Tony Chan to Leave NSF for Hong Kong

Tony Chan, current Associate Director (AD) for Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MPS) at the National Science Foundation, announced at the MPS Advisory Committee Meeting that he had accepted an offer to become the next president of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Chan, a former member of the SIAM Board of Trustees, became the head of MPS in October 2006 while on leave from his position at UCLA. As the Associate Director for Math and Physical Sciences, Chan oversaw the largest portion of the NSF budget, including the mathematical sciences, physics, astronomy, and materials science.
