Applied mathematician predicts the spread of the swine flu

May 4, 2009

Dirk Brockmann, an applied mathematician from Northwestern University, has created a mathematical model to show the spread of the H1N1 flu, popularly known as the swine flu. Brockmann's model projects that if the flu were left unchecked in Mexico, it would infect only 2,000 to 2,500 people in the U.S. by the end of May 2009.
