CBMS Solicits Conferences for 2007

November 17, 2005

The Conference Board of the Mathematical Sciences (CBMS) runs a conference series that is unique among major conference series. Those familiar with SIAM books will recognize the CBMS series of lectures in applied mathematics (see: http://www.siam.org/books/cbmsnsf.php). The AMS and IMS also publish similar series in their areas of research. The CBMS books follow from the NSF-CBMS Regional Research Conferences.

What makes this conference series unique is its format. Each five-day conference features a distinguished lecturer who delivers ten lectures on a topic of important current research in one sharply focused area of the mathematical sciences. The lecturer subsequently prepares a short monograph based on this set of lectures.

A grant from the NSF provides support for about 30 participants at each conference.

The CBMS is seeking proposals for conferences to be run in 2007.

See www.cbmsweb.org for details.

SIAM is a member of the CBMS.
