October 7, 2009

Juan Meza has been recognized by Hispanic Business Magazine as one of the Top 100 Influentials of 2009. This annually published list includes "an admirable array of interesting and talented people [who]come from all regions of the country and from a variety of national origins. This list has become "a badge of recognition" for those included. "What gives the list such a shine comes from the fact it is the product of a major research endeavor and the list goes through many iterations and filters," said editor and publisher Jess Chavarra in the October issue of Hispanic Business Magazine. "Especially exciting every year is the community of excellence and achievement, which emerges as the data is pushed and pulled. Slowly the community of influentials emerges. Ultimately the list is a remarkable portrait from our vantage point of new, emerging American leadership."

Meza, from the High Performance Computing Research Department at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory received following commendation: "With multiple degrees in electrical engineering, as well as a Ph.D. in Computational Mathematics Dr. Meza puts them to good use in his research focused on new directions in technology, as well as expertise in subjects many of us can barely comprehend: nanoscience, molecular conformation, chemical vapor reliability. He previously served as a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratory." He is an active member of SIAM, currently on the Board of Trustees and a member of the SIAM Committee on Science Policy. He received the Blackwell-Tapia Prize in 2008.
