Changes in the nominations process for SIAM Fellows

August 9, 2010

The process for nominating a member for consideration as a SIAM Fellow is about to become easier. When we received the nominations for the 2010 candidates, it became apparent that there was confusion between the purpose of a letter of nomination and a letter of recommendation. Based on recommendation of users, as well as the SIAM Board and Council, the website nominatefellows.siam.org will soon be revised.

The letters of recommendation are the heart and soul of the nomination and the process for submitting them will not change. However, the letter of nomination is meant to be a very simple statement, so you will see a simplification in how nominations are handled.

We anticipate that you will see these changes to nominatefellows.siam.org by the middle of August. However, you don't have to wait until then to proceed with your nomination of candidates for Fellowship in 2011. When asked for a letter of nomination, just enter a simple sentence that you nominate member "x" for reason "y". If you've already entered data or submitted a nomination, you will not be affected by these changes.

We hope that these changes will facilitate your nomination of colleagues for SIAM Fellowship. If you have any questions, please contact Jim Crowley.
