John Ball now Sir John Ball

BBC reported on New Year's Eve that John Ball, applied mathematician from Oxford University, was honored with knighthood. In addition to his research in mathematics and materials, Ball is also known for his work with the International Mathematical Union (IMU) where he serves as President.

John Ball won the 1999 Theodore von Karman Prize with Stuart Antman from the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM).
