Board Elects Iain Duff Chair

At its December meeting, the SIAM Board of Trustees elected Iain Duff as its chairperson for the calendar year 2006.
Iain Duff is a member of the SIAM Board, elected to the Board of Trustees by the membership to a term that started January 1, 2003. Each December, the Board elects one individual from among its members to chair the Board for the following calendar year.
Iain Duff holds a position at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in the UK. This is the first time that someone from outside North America chairs the SIAM Board.
Duff replaces Michael Overton, a long-time member of the SIAM Board, who chaired the Board for two years. The SIAM Bylaws stipulate a maximum number of terms that a member can on the Board, and Overton served the maximum number of terms possible.
