Discrete Mathematics

The SIAG on Discrete Mathematics focuses on combinatorics, graph theory, cryptography, discrete optimization, mathematical programming, coding theory, information theory, game theory, and theoretical computer science, including algorithms, complexity, circuit design, robotics, and parallel processing. This activity group provides an opportunity to unify pure discrete mathematics and areas of applied research such as computer science, operations research, combinatorics, and the social sciences. It organizes the SIAM Conference on Discrete Mathematics; co-sponsors, with ACM SIGACT, the annual Symposium on Discrete Algorithms; and sponsors minisymposia at SIAM meetings and conferences. The activity group also publishes an electronic newsletter and maintains a member directory. Every two years, the activity group also awards the Dénes König Prize to a young researcher for outstanding research in the area of discrete mathematics.
