BMSA Releases Report on Mathematics and Biology
June 30, 2005
The Board on Mathematical Sciences and their Applications (BMSA), a component of the National Research Council, released a report based on a major study of mathematics and biology.
The report, called Mathematics and 21st Century Biology, contains a series of five recommendations for funding agencies and focuses on interdisciplinary collaboration between mathematical scientists and biologists. The report is available in book form from the National Academies Press and may be read online.
Chapters cover the mathematical issues of understanding biologically important molecules, understanding cells, understanding organism, and understanding populations and ecosystems.
The study was commissioned by DOE's Office of Advanced Scientific Computing Research (OASCR)
