A Letter from the SIAM President

Dear SIAM Member,

Your involvement and support enable SIAM to organize disciplinary conferences, publish first-rate journals and books, and sponsor outreach, professional development, and advocacy programs. In 2006, SIAM will continue these activities in order to ensure the continued strength of our discipline.

Please take a moment to renew your SIAM membership for 2006, and thus your commitment to the applied mathematics and computational science community. We have made renewal easier than ever. At my.siam.org/cust_serv you can either renew online or download a print copy of your renewal invoice.

SIAM is your source for news and information about applied mathematics and
computational science. Your SIAM membership includes subscriptions to SIAM News and SIAM Review, and entitles you to substantial discounts on SIAM books, journals, and conferences.

Here are some highlights from the SIAM publishing program during the past year. SIAM Review received the highest impact factor of the 162 journals in the applied mathematics category of the 2004 ISI Journal Citation report! In fact, there are seven SIAM journals in the top 25. In 2005 we implemented Locus, SIAM's online journal archive, which includes the electronic full text for every article published in a SIAM journal from the journal's inception through 1996. Pairing Locus with a subscription to SIAM Journals Online provides immediate, uninterrupted access to all SIAM journal content, from the first SIAM article published--in 1952--to current publications. Pay-per-view, a new service scheduled for implementation in 2006, will allow you to purchase individual articles from journals to which you do not currently subscribe.

SIAM encourages student participation in the field by offering free and discounted memberships, as well as information on education and careers. We provide tools and information online so that members can be effective mentors to young mathematicians. SIAM is enhancing its programs and services for professionals around the world by organizing SIAM conferences in locations beyond North America, and by exploring reciprocity memberships with applied math societies outside the United States.

Please renew your membership for 2006 now and have the satisfaction of contributing to the future of our profession. If you have questions or comments, I would be glad to hear from you.

Sincerely,

Marty Golubitsky
President
