SIAM Forges Reciprocity Agreements with GAMM, KWG

September 26, 2004

For the first time in its history, SIAM has signed reciprocity agreements with two European societies, the Gesellschaft fr Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik (GAMM) and Koninklijk Wiskundig Genootschap (KWG).

Under each agreement, in essence, members of one society will be permitted to join the other at a discounted rate. It is a means of promoting international cooperation that is used by many societies.

The SIAM Board of Trustees had decided at its December 2003 meeting that SIAM should try several reciprocity agreements on an experimental basis. The SIAM Council endorsed the idea at its July 2004 meeting in Portland. The agreements with GAMM and KWG represent SIAM's first attempts at reciprocity.

The participating societies are now working out details for implementing the agreements. Look for further information soon, in SIAM News and at www.siam.org.
