Checking In with Colleagues at the National Science Foundation

November 7, 2002

An October SIAM visit to Washington included a stop at the National Science Foundation, where the new director of the Division of Mathematical Sciences assembled a team of program directors to meet with the SIAM visitors. Shown here, from left, are Hans Kaper of Argonne National Laboratory, currently director of the applied mathematics program at NSF, Gil Strang, chair of the SIAM Science Policy Committee, SIAM president Tom Manteuffel, a just barely visible Mark Marin of Lewis-Burke Associates, DMS director Bill Rundell, and SIAM executive director Jim Crowley.

Later in the day, the SIAM delegation went on to the Department of Energy, for a meeting of the advisory committee to DOE's Office of Science.

For details, see Tom Manteuffel and Jim Crowley's column.
