News from CICIAM

March 15, 2000

Olavi Nevanlinna of Helsinki University of Technology is the new president of CICIAM.
The executive board of the Committee for International Conferences on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (CICIAM) met in Edinburgh on July 10, 1999.

One item on the agenda was a name change: After ICIAM 2003, to be held in Sydney, Australia, the committee will be known as the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.

An important item of business was the election of officers: Robert E. O'Malley, Jr. (representing SIAM), treasurer, and Alain Damlamian (representing SMAI), secretary. Two candidates were nominated for the presidency, and Olavi Nevanlinna (representing NORTIM) was elected in September, via mailed ballot.
