Audio-Visual Policy

Standard Audio-visual Set-up in Meeting Rooms
All rooms come equipped with a projector, which can be connected to an in-room computer, a laptop of one of the speakers, or an in room document camera.  There are no overhead/transparency projectors.

(If people plan to use the document camera, I recommend they prepare slides on white paper rather  than on transparencies.  I also suggest "landscape format".

Join SIAM and save!

SIAM members save up to $50 on full registration for the 2011 SIAM Conference on Applied Algebraic Geometry! Join your peers in supporting the premier professional society for applied mathematicians and computational scientists. SIAM members receive subscriptions to SIAM Review and SIAM News and enjoy substantial discounts on SIAM books, journal subscriptions, and conference registrations.

If you are not a SIAM member and do not join SIAM before you register for the conference, you can pay the Non-Member or Non-Member Mini Speaker/Organizer rate and still apply the difference between what you paid for the conference and what a member would have paid ($50 for a Non-Member and $25 for a Non-Member Mini Speaker/Organizer) towards a SIAM membership. After you register for the conference, contact SIAM Customer Service for details about membership.

If you are a SIAM member, it only costs $10 to join the SIAM Activity Group on Algebraic Geometry (SIAM/AG). As a SIAG/AG member, you are eligible for an additional $10 discount on this conference. As the total price of membership plus conference registration is the same, you might want to consider joining the activity group. If you already paid the SIAM member rate to attend the conference, you might be eligible for a free SIAG/AG membership. Contact SIAM Customer Service.

Free Student Membershipsare available to all students who attend an institution that is an Academic Member of SIAM, are members of Student Chapters of SIAM, or are nominated by a Regular Member of SIAM.

Transportation

By Air
The Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), 2400 W. Terminal Blvd., Morrisville, NC, is about twelve miles northwest of the meeting site on campus and is served by most major airlines.

Ground Transportation

Public Transportation from Airport
Taxis are available at the airport for transportation to the hotel.  A one-way taxi fare to campus from the airport is about US$30; limo service is about US$55.  SuperShuttle is also available for about US$18.

The Triangle Transit Authority runs a bus 100 roughly every 30 minutes to 1 hour between the airport and downtown Raleigh.  The stop at Hillsborough Street and Brooks Avenue is closest to North Carolina State University and the Brownstone Hotel.  The stop at Morgan and Dawson is closest to the Clarion.  The fare is US$2.  Unfortunately, this bus does not run on Sunday.  Other public transport around Raleigh can be found at www.gotriangle.org.

By Train
Amtrak has a rail station in Raleigh.  To make train reservations through Amtrak, call (800) USA-RAIL, go to http://www.amtrak.com.  Taxis are available at the train station for transportation to the hotel.

Rental Cars
Many major car rental companies have offices inside the airport terminal. You can make your arrangements when you arrive at the airport or you can make them through your own travel agent.

Driving Directions
Take I-40 East to exit 289 (Raleigh North and East), which becomes Wade Avenue. At third traffic light make right on Faircloth Street, then at first traffic light make left on Hillsborough Street. North Carolina State University will be directly ahead on the right. The Holiday Inn-Brownstone is less than one mile from North Carolina State University entrance.

If renting a car, please obtain a map and directions from your rental car company. Another option is to visit Mapquest, or another similar web site. SIAM highly recommends you contact the hotel directly or visit their web site for driving directions.
