Embedded Boundary Methods: Where do Things Stand?

8:30 AM - 9:15 AM
Room: Imperial Ballroom - ML
Chair: Lisa J. Fauci, Tulane University

Embedded boundaries have received a great deal of attention in the last decade. They are considered competitive in many ways with the alternatives of either unstructured or structured overset grids. Some of the issues that must be addressed include stability in the presence of small irregular cells, and discretizations for moving bodies. The speaker will review the current situation, concentrating on her work involving aerodynamic flows. Several of the tools that have been developed which take advantage of the simplicity of Cartesian grids are presented. The talk will end with a discussion of open problems.
