Audio-visual Policy

Standard Audio-visual Set-up in Meeting Rooms

SIAM does not provide computers for any speaker. When giving an electronic presentation, speakers must provide their own computers. SIAM is not responsible for the safety and security of speakers’ computers.

A data (LCD) projector and screen will be provided in all technical session meeting rooms. The data projectors support both VGA and HDMI connections. Presenters requiring an alternate connection must provide their own adaptor.

All speakers should visit http://www.siam.org/meetings/guidelines/av.php prior to the pre-registration deadline.

 

E-Mail

SIAM will provide a limited number of email stations for attendees during registration hours at the Oregon Convention Center (OCC). In addition, SIAM has arranged for wireless Internet access throughout the meeting areas at the OCC. This service is being provided at no additional cost to attendees.

The average July temperature in Portland varies between 77° F (25°C) and 84° F (29°C).  Remember meeting room temperatures and personal comfort zones vary widely. It is recommended that you bring a sweater or jacket to the sessions.

Poster Session

The poster session is scheduled for Tuesday July 10, 8:00 PM-10:00 PM. Presenters are requested to put up their posters no later than 8:00 PM on Tuesday, the official start time of the session. Boards and push pins will be available to presenters beginning Sunday, July 8, at 5:00 PM. Note: Any poster presenter who fails to show and present a confirmed presentation will be considered a no-show. No-shows will be billed $65 per accepted poster.

 

SIAM Books and Journals

Display copies of books and complimentary copies of journals are available on site. SIAM books are available at a discounted price during the conference. The SIAM books booth is located in the Exhibit hall.

Transportation

Super Shuttle
Super Shuttle services the Portland International Airport, and offers a 10% discount to SIAM attendees. Conference attendees can also review the Super Shuttle website prior to traveling to determine if Super Shuttle is being offered in their respective city when making local transportation arrangements.

Public Transportation from Airport
Taxis are available at the airport for transportation to the hotel. Please visit hotel websites to find local directions:

By Train
Amtrak has a rail station in Portland. To make train reservations through Amtrak, call (800) USA-RAIL, go to http://www.amtrak.com or contact Uniglobe Wings Travel. Taxis are available at the train station for transportation to the hotel.

Rental Cars
Many major car rental companies have offices inside the airport terminal. You can make your arrangements when you arrive at the airport or you can make them through Uniglobe Wings Travel or your own travel agent. Driving Directions
If renting a car, please obtain a map and directions from your rental car company. Another option is to visit Google Maps, or another similar web site. Visa Information

International attendees at conferences in the US may already be aware that there have been changes to the visa program for scientific visitors, which affect even people from visa waiver countries. The site http://sites.nationalacademies.org/PGA/biso/visas/index.htm, maintained by The National Academies, provides guidance on obtaining the necessary documents. 

As of January 12, 2009, a valid ESTA approval is required for all Visa Waiver Program (VWP) to travel to the United States. Please visit https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/tourism-visit/visa-waiver-program.html for additional information and procedures regarding the visa waiver program as maintained by the US Department of State.

 

Letter of Invitation

Confirmed authors in need of a Letter of Invitation to assist in the visa application process, please fill out the Letter of Invitation Request Form. Please allow three to four weeks for processing and delivery.
